Happy New Year

Nobody needs reminding how difficult 2020 has been. We’ve all found it challenging and have coped in different ways. For me, I have largely shut off the news, spent more time in nature and focused on my art.

Despite all the disruption I have had several very positive moments throughout the year. I won first prize in the RBSA Open Art Competition, had work included in the Broadway Open, the Three Counties Open and the RBSA Prize exhibition. I held an online exhibition with Jemma Gunning and went urban exploring with her to find new subject matter for a third show.

In the Autumn I started working with Bullclough Art School, delivering ink pen and painting workshops. All being well, I will be running several more workshops there next year.

My drawing mostly focused on ink pens this year and I have produced some of my favourite work in this medium. Near the end of the year I started working in oil paints again for the first time in over twenty years and found it enjoyable.

My art classes will resume at the venues as soon as we are able to return. In the meantime I will be teaching online at the start of the year. New students are welcome to join.

Life is never completely bad or good - there’s always a mixture of the two. Challenges will come to us all and we just need to make the most of what we have. I feel next year we will see a gradual transition into a more ‘normal year’ as the vaccines roll out across the UK and I will continue to make more art. I am never bored!

Christmas Exhibition

My recent urban landscapes are currently on show at the Christmas Exhibition at Reuben Colley Fine Art.  This includes my 'Universal' painting on display for the first time.

I am currently working on a new piece which is already looking very strong and could possibly be one of my best.  This is based on a slightly run down looking  car wash in Stafford but it is also a continuation of my my interest in stillness, empty spaces and abandonment.

Next year I am starting another art class at Burntwood Library.  Full listing of my art classes can be seen on this website.  All abilities are welcome and new members can join any time.  I am also booking more workshops which are also listed on this website.

Art classes and workshops

My art classes and workshops pages are regularly updated and so if you are interested in learning how to draw and paint do keep looking.

The Stafford College classes continue in Haughton Village Hall on the 12th April and the first session is free.  The Stafford College class at Penkridge starts again on the 20th April.  Contact the college to enroll or myself if you are unable to get through.

Mt regular class on Wednesday morning at Gainsborough Artworks in Stafford is ongoing and you can join when you are ready.  Send me a message to check availability.

I also often run Art workshops and you can request me to run one for you.  Just send me a message with your requirements and i will get back to you.

I believe we all have a creative side and it is just a matter of opening up and having a go.  I teach all abilities including people who have no confidence.  You'll be surprised at what you can achieve if you try and i can help you develop whatever your ability.
